P + J
It all started with polaroids, bicycles, and pseudoscience. We met while we were both at MIT at an electronic music night hosted by some of our friends, appropriately called "the appliance of science". We ended up talking all night and a few days later P started finding mysterious packages at her office door every morning, one of which prompted our first hang out and the first thing we made together - a long-exposure modified polaroid camera. Needless to say we were happy to have found each other!
In between making robots and playing with LEDs, cameras, and resistors, we'd play hooky to train for the shoe kick olympics, seek out sweet treats, create our own adventures, and ride any swing, slide, or zipper that we happened upon along the way. We started a band; built bicycles, animation machines, and whole lot of research projects; pushed to the limits our ideas of what was possible; and somewhere in the middle of it all started to fall in love.
After P finished her training as an evil master genius, she took off for New York in the hopes of acquainting herself with new post-graduate projects, Brooklyn, and long distance x-ray vision and J acquainted himself with the weekly Chinatown Bus schedules. Eventually he took a one way trip, bearing with him all of the metal, machinery, and mischief he could tow. New York was brilliant, but San Francisco was calling. So more than a few months, handstands, outdoor concerts, food finds and still more handstands later, we both packed up and found our way back to California together.
After we both settled back in, started new endeavors and jobs, and thought we had no secrets between us, J went on a secret stealth trip to Michigan to hang out with the Voras. He arrived just in time for (Vora famous) high tea and a feast prepared for him alone, none of which he could eat - as he was there to propose to P's parents! Naturally, they were ecstatic and said yes. A week later, J managed to outwit P again. Thinking they were taking a quick bicycle ride to check out the new Musee Mechanique before their weekend plans, J took P around the whole museum, playing with the automatic arm wrestler, taking countless photobooth photos, and watching the zoetropes go. Convincing her to play one more coin-operated game, he took her to the fortune teller machine. After P inserted her quarters, the wizard lifted his hat to reveal a tiny box (a big question) and a gigantic scream! J magically retrieved the box from the animatronic fortune telling machine he had rigged, whisked P into the nearest photobooth and proposed. The answer was an emphatic, obvious, and most exciting YES!
